We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal*.
*All men are created equal, but some terms and
restrictions may apply. You may find that you are not seen as completely equal in the eyes of the government and your fellow Americans if you are not a white, Christian, heterosexual male. If you fail to meet that description, you may not receive the same job, education or pay as your counterparts.
Though everyone has the right to vote, your vote may not actually count if you cast your ballot on a computer. But don't worry, someone else will make the choice for you!
Also, if you are an American of Arab descent, you
will automatically be seen as a terrorist. Thus, the
government has the right to hold you indefinitely
without ever being charged of a crime! Also, all
Mosques are subject to surveillance by the FBI because we all know that a peaceful place of worship in is a hotbed for terrorists!
Bear in mind that the president has the right to do
whatever he wants even if the American people don't approve. For example, if the president wants to wage war on a third world country, let say...Iraq, for factious reasons, even though the United Nations and millions of people all over the world protest such an action, he still has the right to do so. In short, your opinions are completely irrelevant once corporate America steps in.
Finally, it should be noted that unless you're rich,
and we mean rich, you will never really be equal. Even though our fore fathers dreamed of a nation without aristocracy and the caste system of the old world, we all must remember, they had there fair share of cash.

Powell Bails Out
11.15.04 (12:18 pm)   [edit]
Secretary of State Colin Powell has bailed out of the cabinet, as predicted. His moderate view must have been to much for the "compassionate conservative" platform of the Bush administration (not to mention the fights with Rummy). To quote Randi Rhodes, Bush is "cleaning his cabinet faster than Martha Stewart!"

We all saw the massive ad campaigns that urged Americans to do everything from "rock the vote" to "turn around etov" and even the blunt warning from P Diddy to "vote or die". And while many thought a high voter turnout would be beneficial for the Democrats, such assumptions where proven wrong. It was the high voter turnout that, in fact, hurt presidential candidate John Kerry.
Why? Values. It was the "values voters", often right wing, religious fundamentalists who where driven to the polls by social issues such as same-sex marriage, stem cell research and abortion.
Gay-marriage was on the ballot in several states, some of which key to the presidential candidates, thus large numbers of conservatives and even moderates flocked to polls to cast their ballots against same-sex marriage. One woman in Jacksonville, Florida, who was a life long democrat, proclaimed that she would be voting for George W. Bush because "she knew he was a Christian". Yes, believe it or not, it was God who in one way or another decided this election.

What Should We Think of Arafat's Death?
11.14.04 (6:59 am)   [edit]

The Guardian News Blogger Ros Taylor wrote a great entry on what should we think of the passing of Yasser Arafat. He was a terrorist but he could also harness peace.

Texas Remains a Lone Party State
11.13.04 (5:03 pm)   [edit]
Letter from Texas by Ljly
For several years, the Texas State Supreme Court was controlled by Republicans and unfortunately, an effort to balance the scales by David van Os failed. It doesn't matter where you stand, having one party in control of something as important as the state supreme court is wrong and unfair.

On the Left: It's Not Over Yet!
11.13.04 (8:11 am)   [edit]
Okay, it look's pretty bad right now. The GOP has control of the Senate, House, Supreme Court and maybe even the White House. I say "maybe' not because I'm in denial or anything, that ended yesterday, I say "maybe" because it isn't official...yet. The ballots are still being counted, believe it or not and reports of voter suppression and ballot tampering are reaching authorities every minute.
Don't believe me? Then why did an area with only five hundred registered voters have over one thousand votes cast?
It's not over yet, don't take your Kerry signs down or peel off those anti-W bumper stickers because there is still hope that the real voice of America can be heard!

Palestine and Peace
11.13.04 (7:11 am)   [edit]
by Andrew

When Arafat died in Paris several days ago, no one really knew what would happen to the peace process. Some thought Arafat's death would inspire more violence in the middle east, but others believed that this would bring Palestine to the diplomatic table. Well it seems like Palestine is anxious to reach an accord for peace...

Palestinians call for peace talks

Observers say Mr Arafat's death could be a new chance for peace
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has called for a speedy resumption of peace efforts with Israel, a day after Yasser Arafat's burial in Ramallah.

Talkin' Bout' My Generation

Math is confusing enough without throwing in big numbers like three trillion which is, coincidentally, the tally of our national debt. Believe it or not, the US government will owe a total of three trillion dollars over the next ten years, according to congressional reports. But here's the sad part, the children will get to pay it off! That's right! If you're twelve now, in ten years, you'll be paying taxes several times what they are today to help pay off the quagmire our current leaders have made. So I would start cramming cash into that piggy-bank if I were you!
